We’re now on Lefkas in a place called Sivota, which is about eight miles north of Kefalonia. We’re in a land-locked inlet about half a mile from the sea and it’s quite spectacular! There are lots of sailing boats here, so we stick out a bit but, of course, we don’t mind that! Today we’re off to Meganisi, another island, about five miles away.
So this is what it’s all about. Island-hopping and mooring in some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen.
Lots of pictures today. (Well, there were going to be, but the connection here is so slow I've had to cut them down. Shame!) I took the first ones, and then sent Jayne out to take some more. She came back with loads of arty ones featuring lots of flowers and buildings? Girls, eh!

I’d just like to thank Russ for revealing all my best-kept secrets. But it was a long time ago (bluster, bluster) and I’m a lot braver now. Having said that, Russ is a sailing type who still thinks boats can’t sink!
And Brom, when you’ve just tripped and fallen off a 40-storey building, your first thought is not “damn, I’d wish I’d brought the camera”
Well Ok - maybe cameras don't always spring to mind when you're battling the elements - and the photos of the local greenery and scenery are brilliant, keep 'em coming!! - but a photo of the indrepid voyagers battling through high seas and depositing their stomachs into the wind would have been good too. Maybe you could recreate the scene, throw yourselves all over the deck witha bit of green makeup for the face and a few tins of vegetable soup chucked on the floor and presto. I mean, it's just a thought mate.
ReplyDeleteWe visited Vassiliki, I think that may be the place that is populated by Greeks with Australian accents in the smmer but deserted in the winter. Apparently the population spend the European winter in Oz and then come back and rin heir businesses in the European summer. I vaguely remember wandering up a road to the east (left hand side!) fom Vassiliki to eat in a Taverna who specialised in a choclate pudding which if I remember was underwhelming.
ReplyDeleteVathi is quite nice on Meganisi. Little village on a steep hill. Very Greek, at least it was! Theres's also an island north of Meganisi which you can't visit, it's bouyed off. I think it belongs to the Onassis family.
I thought Jayne's pictures were concentrating on Tavernas rather than flowers.
