The Wedding

Now, I’ve been to lots of weddings – not as many as Jayne, obviously (but most of those were her own) and sometimes people try a bit too hard or the mix of guests is wrong.  But, I have to say, last night’s was up there with the best!  Lynsey and Klevis had a simple ceremony and then we all piled off in a coach, to a taverna for the reception.  It was brilliant!
And what a great bunch of people! We had lots of good food and loads of beer - but I think I only bought one round ‘cos every time I went back to our table there was another huge Mythos (Greek beer) waiting for me.  Perhaps there’s a beer fairy (now wouldn’t that be great!) but I suspect it was more likely bought by Martin, Tony or David.  I owe you one guys!  (Not you Martin, as we cleaned the boat this morning!)

Psst! Jayne's wearing that necklace I bought.

The plan was to head up to Fiskardo on the north side of the island (that’s the top, girls!), which is supposed to be very beautiful, but the weather forecast was predicting strong winds up to force 6.  Needless to say, it’s now 2.00pm and there’s not a breath!  You’d think, these days, forecasts would be accurate and maybe they can be, but it’s just that meteorologists have a sick sense of humour and like to keep you guessing.  The forecast is better for tomorrow – so that’ll be a gale then!
We want to arrive in Fiskardo when it’s calm, because, over here, you have to drop the anchor and reverse back to the quay.  We’ve never done that before and it’s a lot trickier than you think. ‘Don’t want to try that for the first time in a force 6!

We’ll be off early tomorrow though.  There was no chance of that today, as Guess Who didn’t emerge from his cabin till noon - just as we finished cleaning the boat.  Uncanny timing!  We got back in a taxi last night at around 1.30am but Martin wanted to stay and didn’t get back till 4.00am. We didn’t hear him return and, when we got up, the only evidence that he was back was an empty Mythos tankard on the back of the boat, which he’d nicked!  I can understand though – he just couldn’t let it go… bless ‘im!

So, the next time you hear from me will be from Fiskardo – if they have wi-fi, which I doubt.

PS. We’d all like say a big thank you to Marie, Tim, Lynsey and Klevis and to everyone else involved in organising the wedding.  Not only for inviting us but also, for making it such a brilliant evening.  Fantastic! Thanks!

  1. Been to Fiskardo once although it was 15 years ago. It's one of the few villages on Kefalonia which escaped the earthquake so they're probably due one. Very nice place but the harbour is quite rocky so watch your rudder and props. We ended up on the north side of he harbour with a long line out round a rock on the shore as a 2 meter keel doesn't help getting close to the quay. Then some helpful Italians decided to lay their anchor chain over ours which made leaving a bit difficult.

We ate a superb fishy soupy dish in a very nice restaurant and had to put up with some wingeing Brit woman in the next door restaurant moaning about the amount of salt in her food. Every dish round the Greek islands seem to be extra salty which I guess is put in to combat the constant heat - actually we thought she was trying to get out of paying!

Nice to here that the Mythos still comes in big bottles and that they haven't succumbed to Euro measures. The wine is still crap though plus they owe everybody a lot of money.
